HSC Legal Studies

The signature subject. Crime, Human Rights and the option topics taught through legislation, cases, media and a repeatable evaluation framework.

Legal Studies rewards students who can do three things under pressure: state the law accurately, support it with current evidence, and evaluate how effectively it delivers justice. Most students can do the first. Marks are won and lost on the other two.

Sessions build a working bank of legislation, cases, media articles, reports and statistics for every topic, then drill the writing that turns that material into Band 6 responses. Every extended response is marked against the criteria the markers actually use.

What sessions cover

The Legal System & Crime

Criminal investigation, trial process, sentencing, young offenders and international crime, with current NSW examples.

Human Rights

The development, promotion and enforcement of human rights, plus a contemporary issue argued with real evidence.

Option topics

Family, Shelter, Workplace, World Order, Consumers and Indigenous Peoples, taught with the same evaluation structure.

Evaluation & extended response

The LAW REPAIRS criteria applied to every topic so evaluation becomes automatic rather than improvised.
